Program Overview
The Electricity & Electronics High School Challenge has been designed to supplement the curriculum of a high school (9-10) science teacher. Like other AWIM challenges, the Electricity & Electronics Challenge will join together teachers, students, and industry volunteers in an exploration of physical science while addressing essential scientific concepts and skills.
In the Electricity & Electronics High School Challenge there are a series of investigations that explore transistors and semiconductors, analog integrated circuits, and digital integrated circuits. Student teams construct circuits on breadboards using resistors, capacitors, transistors, jumper wires, a group power supply, LEDs, switches, loudspeakers, diodes, photo cells, integrated circuits. These experiments introduce the basic circuits that are behind most of our modern electronics as they build amplifiers, sirens, remote control detectors, a touch oscillator, gated oscillator, a counter with display, and traffic light display among others.
